"People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway. If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It never was between you and them anyway."
- Mother Teresa
I stumbled upon these words by Mother Teresa and was called to share them with you. Often there is no worldly reward for doing what we know we should and what we are called to do. But in the end, Mother Teresa is right, it's not about the world or the rewards it can give us. Doing the right thing will rarely make our paycheck bigger, our home fancier, our children smarter or our neighbors nicer. The world cannot give to us what God kept to give.
When you feel down and discouraged because you keep trying to be a good person and do right by people, and yet you seem you are constantly turning the other check for the goodness just doesn't come back, remember who you are doing things for. You may never hear thank you, or sorry, or I love you. And doing the right things won't earn you God's love - that you have whether you may deserve it or not. Doing the right thing and doing it for God means saying thank you each and every day for the sacrifice God made for us. After all, its not about us anyway. Live, Laugh, Love...anyway.
